Would you try… cacao-free chocolate?

The chocolate industry is known for its potential ethical issues, mainly child labour and deforestation.

Over the past few years, an increasing number of start-ups have been offering lab-grown alternatives to common products in order to avoid the environmental and social risks associated with raw material sourcing.

Diamonds, meat… and now chocolate!

WNWN Food labs skips the cacao beans production step by selecting European plants instead (British barley and Italian carob) that would undergo a specific fermentation and roasting process.

If the founders are well aware that they will not save the industry from its “dark side”, they hope however to sensitize and raise awareness among consumers.

In any case, this is a puzzling innovation that, unfortunately, we won’t be able to taste right now since the whole production was sold out in a day!
