Textile industry: alternative materials sourcing on the rise

A few weeks ago, Textile Exchange released its new Material Change Insights 2020 report, a snapshot of where the industry stands in its “shift to preferred materials“, highlighting in the same time the most urging remaining challenges.

More than 190 companies worldwide were interviewed and assessed on (among other) their progress to adopt alternative materials and integrate circularity principles.

We noted that sourcing of preferred materials increased by 24% (in volumes), reaching now 44% of the Index portfolio. A rise unsurprisingly driven by renewable cotton (organic or improved land management) and recycled polyester.

The section providing environmental impacts savings (in terms of GHG emissions, energy and water consumption) from this shift also drawed our attention.

A wealth of detailed information, material per material, deserving a deep-dive analysis!
