Global certified wood supply disrupted by the war in Ukraine

The number of industries affected by the conflict is growing. The sustainable wood sector is one of them.

Indeed, 35% of FSC-certified wood comes from Russia (27%), Belarus and Ukraine.

The decision to suspend FSC (but also PEFC) certificates and to ban the supply of controlled wood from these 2 countries seriously complicates the opportunities for responsible sourcing, especially as the demand for these certified products continues to grow.

A challenge in terms of sourcing but also of traceability since one third of Russian wood is exported to China for transformation, before supplying our European markets in the form of derived products…
